American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina

I need to give a quick shout-out to a worth institution in Bosnia, and one which serves an invaluable function in forging deeper cultural and intellectual ties between two secular, multiethnic democracies--Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the United States of America:

American University in Bosnia

PS I had meant to research how to post .pdf files in Blogger, as I have a contact at the University who wanted me to pass it along if possible. However, my family has had a crisis and that has taken up all my time and attention. If anyone knows how to do so, I still have the file and would love to post it, I just lack the time and energy to look it up. In the meantime, I want to at least publicize the University itself.

Bloggers wonder: does human life have a price?

Here's a story that Jared Israel, and the whole "Committee to Defend Slobodan Milosevic" crowd probably won't be publicizing any time soon:

Homophobic US General Blames Srebrenica on Gay Dutch Soldiers

OK, my headline is a bit hyperbolic, but not by much:

Retired general: Gays made Dutch weak in Bosnia

Regarding the Srebrenica Genocide; there are many things for which we can hold the Dutch military at fault, but allowing gay Dutch citizens to serve their country in the military is not one of them.

Open Letter on the Arrest of Ejup Ganic from Professor Francis A. Boyle

The arrest of Ejup Ganic by the British government is all political. TheBritish have always detested and hated Ganic because he was the oneBosnian war-time leader who had the guts to stand up against thempublicly, so this is now the British payback against Ganic, Bosnia andthe Bosnians. Indeed, it was Ganic who personally helped me get thelegal authorization from President Izetbegovic to sue Britain at theWorld Court for aiding and abetting genocide against Bosnia, asexplained in the attached Note. This British persecution of Ejup Ganicis simply a continuation of the genocidal policies that PerfidiousAlbion has always pursued against Bosnia and the Bosnians.

Bibliography Project 2

Thanks to everyone for the feedback and additional suggestions--keep them coming!

If anyone wants to contribute a descriptive paragraph along with your suggestion, feel free. For now, the descriptions I'm writing are minimal; I want to move this along rather than spend a lot of time getting it "just right". Here's a sample:

Cry Bosnia

Paul Harris

Forward by Kemal Kurspahic

Introduction by David Rieff

Copyright 1996

ISBN: 1566562120

Interlink Books

Photojournalist Paul Harris made dozens of trips to Bosnia over the course of the war, and unlike many he did not confine himself to Sarajevo. He covered much of the country during that time, and this book collects some of his most striking images. The accompanying text is quite good; the book is in several chapters organized by theme, place, and time, and each chapter opens with a few pages of context-establishing text before moving on to the striking pictures and their informative captions.

Once I have a list of ISBNs to look up, I'll use WorldCat at my job to look up OCLC numbers. Of course, entries can be edited, added to, or completely revamped later.

Bibliography Project

A big thanks to Shaina at The Daily Seyahatname for motivating me to finally follow through on my long-ago promise to create an annotated bibliography of books on Bosnia and the Bosnian War for general readers. Her offer to work on it with me is greatly appreciated.

For now, I wish to focus mostly on reliable and "sympathetic works"; if time permits, later I will add an additional section on works of revisionism, distortion, propaganda, and so forth. But for now, I prefer to start with books I would actually recommend to someone who wishes to understand the conflicts of the 1990s in greater detail and with the proper context.

Here is a list of books Shaina and I put together; please feel free to suggest other titles we've overlooked.
